Congressman Ted Deutch Issues Statement on Address by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu

Washington, DC - Congressman Ted Deutch (FL-21), Ranking Democrat on the House Foreign Affairs Committee's Subcommittee on the Middle East and North Africa, issued this statement following today's address to Congress by the Prime Minister of Israel:

"Today, I had the privilege of escorting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu into the House chamber for his remarks to a Joint Session of Congress. After many weeks of partisan and political distractions, I felt it was important for the Congress to hear the Prime Minister’s views and focus on the actual issue at hand – Iran’s illicit nuclear weapons program. Congress must play an increasingly active and vocal role in negotiations over ending Iran’s nuclear program as the deadline for negotiators to reach an acceptable agreement quickly approaches. A nuclear-armed Iran would endanger our national security, pose an existential threat to Israel, and risk destabilizing an already volatile Middle East. As the Prime Minister reiterated today, this is a dangerous regime and the international community must not put the world’s number one state sponsor of terror on a path to acquiring the world’s most dangerous weapons."
