Rep. Deutch Statement on FL Unemployment System
Following Florida Governor Ron DeSantis' announcement of an investigation into the state's troubled unemployment system, Congressman Ted Deutch (FL-22) issued this statement:
"It’s been over five weeks since Congress passed the CARES Act. We provided federal benefits to unemployed Americans, extended state benefits, and offered assistance to contractors and gig workers for the first time.
"We knew many weeks ago that there was a problem, yet only now does the Governor want an investigation.
"We know former Governor Rick Scott did this and the failures of our unemployment system stem from his time. Instead of spending state resources now to investigate how we got into this mess, we should be using all available resources to fix it.
"Floridians needed access to these benefits when they were laid off, not weeks later. Trying to distract from the fact that so much time has passed and the Governor hasn’t been able to fix it isn’t going to work."
