Chairman Deutch Statement on Yom Ha'atzmaut, Israel's Independence Day
This evening, Chairman Ted Deutch (FL-22) issued this statement to mark Yom Ha'atzmaut, Israel Independence Day:
"Israel, like countries around the world, has been focused on responding to the coronavirus pandemic within its borders and keeping its people safe and healthy. Though virtual celebrations may not be the same, from a distance we honor Israel's storied past, her robust growth, and her strength today.
"As a member of the United States Congress, I celebrate the values and priorities Israel holds and which we share, including commitments to democracy and human rights, leadership in humanitarian efforts around the world, and our partnerships in the advancement of medicine, technology, agriculture, and other fields.
"This past January I participated in Israel's ceremony to mark International Holocaust Remembrance Day and 75 years since the liberation of Auschwitz. I was struck by the meaningful presentations of dozens of global leaders who memorialized the victims of the Holocaust and pledged to stand up against anti-Semitism. In Israel's 72 year history, its brave people and fearless leaders have helped ensure Jews around the world feel safer and more secure. I join with all other friends of Israel in wishing the Israeli people a happy Independence Day."
