Deutch Statement on Passage of Funding Bill for Humanitarian Assistance and Border Security
Following passage of a supplemental funding bill for border security and humanitarian assistance on the southern border, Congressman Ted Deutch (FL-22) issued this statement:
"The conditions in these federal facilities housing migrant children are appalling and should offend every American. There is no excuse for failing to provide these children with even the most basic necessities to keep them clean and safe. The Administration must answer to Congress and the American people what will be done to ensure these children are kept safe.
"We must exert Congressional oversight to hold the Administration responsible for the conditions of these children. The Office of Refugee Resettlement is on the brink of running out of money, which would make a difficult situation even worse. This bill will deliver essential resources to children who crossed the border. Much more needs to be done to ensure the safety and well-being of these kids. This funding bill is a necessary and urgent response to the humanitarian crisis created by the Administration through their cruel immigration policies."
