Chairman Deutch Statement on Yom Ha'atzmaut, Israel Independence Day
Today, Chairman Ted Deutch (FL-22) issued this statement to mark Yom Ha'atzmaut, Israel Independence Day:
“Over the last 71 years, Israel has withstood wars, unending security threats, and global efforts to delegitimize its very right to exist. But 71 years later, Israel stands as a strong democratic nation leading the world in tech innovation and scientific research. And 71 years later, the United States remains steadfastly alongside our ally and strategic partner, as we have since President Harry Truman recognized the modern State of Israel just 11 minutes after its proclamation.
“Just days ago, Israelis were once again under fire from rocket attacks out of Gaza. Israelis are no strangers to terrorist threats and security risks. But, just like every other nation in the world, they should not have to live in fear of terrorists living on their border with access to rockets capable of striking every part of their country. Israel, just like every other nation in the world, must be able to defend itself from rockets raining down on its citizens and from terror tunnels and all other terror threats.
“Israel’s history is filled with existential threats, but ultimately, Israel is the story of hope. On the 71st anniversary of the founding of the modern State of Israel, I wish all Israelis a Chag Sameach and Happy Independence Day! Am Yisrael Chai!”
