Reps. Deutch, Ros-Lehtinen Introduce Resolution Honoring Alberto Nisman
Congressman Ted Deutch (FL-22) and Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (FL-27), the Ranking Member and Chairman respectively of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on the Middle East and North Africa, introduced a resolution honoring Alberto Nisman’s work and calling for a full and just investigation into his death (H.R. 704).
Mr. Nisman was the Special Prosecutor overseeing the investigation into the 1994 bombing of the Buenos Aires AMIA (Asociación Mutual Israelita Argentina) building. He was tragically shot and killed in Buenos Aires on January 18, 2015, one day before he was to present his new findings to the Argentine Congress. The bill recommends the President of the United States to aid the Argentine government in investigating Mr. Nisman’s death and to continue monitoring Iran’s activities in Latin America. The bill expresses concern about both Iran’s networks in Latin America and former Argentine President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner’s attempts to discredit Mr. Nisman. In December 2017, a federal judge in Argentina indicted former President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner for treason for covering up Iran’s involvement in the AMIA bombing.
