Congressman Ted Deutch (FL-22) issued the following statement after Senate Republicans passed a partisan tax bill that will devastate hard-working American families while providing massive tax breaks for big corporations and top earners:

“This is a shameful day for those Senate Republicans who put their party and their donors above the interests of their constituents. 

“Republicans’ move to give permanent tax breaks for top earners and big corporations will blow a $1.5 trillion hole in our national deficit. 

“These gains won’t go toward creating jobs and raising wages, as Republicans claim; just listen to the CEOs who’ve already made clear their intention to give the tax windfall to their shareholders. 

“The American people should not be fooled: the Republican plan will trigger automatic $25 billion Medicare cuts at the end of the year and will set Republicans up for further cuts to hard-earned Medicare and Social Security benefits.

“I hope the American people will see through this Trump tax scam and keep it from ever getting to the President's desk."
