Congressman Ted Deutch (FL-22), Ranking Member of the Middle East and North Africa Subcommittee, issued this statement following recent violence in Israel and the murder of three members of the Salomon family:
“The cruel, cold-blooded murder of three members of the Salomon family is heart-breaking. Every leader in the civilized world must condemn this attack and all attacks against innocent civilians and reaffirm the need to end incitement and violence.
“Sadly, President Abbas has failed to stop the incitement leading to devastating violence. He must end payments to terrorists and recommit to working with Israel on security matters. I am deeply concerned about the impact halting security cooperation could have for the security of both Israelis and Palestinians.
“Prime Minister Netanyahu has reiterated his commitment to maintaining the status quo at the Temple Mount. President Abbas must work together with Prime Minister Netanyahu and King Abdullah to diffuse tensions rather than dangerously exploiting those tensions for political gain.”
