Rep. Deutch Cosponsors Resolution Establishing Committee on Gun Violence Prevention
Today, Congressman Ted Deutch (FL-22) joined Congressman Mike Thompson (CA-5) and 132 additional Members of Congress in co-introducing a resolution to establish a Select Committee on Gun Violence Prevention.
This resolution establishes a select committee, composed of six Republican and six Democratic members, to investigate the causes of mass shootings, methods to improve the background check system, loopholes allowing domestic abusers continued access to firearms, gun violence's effect on public health, and linkages between firearms and suicide.
"Congress has a moral obligation to take action on this issue," said Congressman Deutch. "By closing the terror loophole, reinstating the now-expired assault weapons ban, ensuring background checks on all purchases, and allowing the Centers for Disease Control to research gun violence, we can ensure that the Second Amendment is exercised safely and responsibly."
