Legislative Updates: 115th Congress
Rep. Deutch Cosponsors Vote By Mail Act
Congressman Ted Deutch (FL-22) has joined as an original cosponsor of the Vote By Mail Act of 2017, legislation to allow all eligible voters to vote by mail in Federal elections and to provide for automatic voter registration.
Vote-by-mail has shown to be a cost effective way to make voting easier. This legislation would amend the Help America Vote Act of 2002 to require states to mail ballots to all eligible voters in federal elections at least two weeks before the election. It would also amend the National Voting Registration Act of 1993 to provide for automatic voter registration at state motor vehicle agencies.
"We should be making voting easier, not harder," said Congressman Deutch. "If we are serious about protecting the rights of legitimate voters and modernizing our outdated voter registration system, it is time for Congress to pass automatic voter registration."
