Rep. Deutch Slams President's Anti-Environment Executive Order
Congressman Ted Deutch (FL-22), the Democratic Co-Chair of the bipartisan Climate Solutions Caucus, issued this statement after the President signed a sweeping executive order rolling back crucial federal environmental protections:
“This destructive executive order ends our nation’s progress on climate change under President Obama, and instead turns its back on American communities like mine in South Florida that are today dealing with its real world effects like sea level rise. President Trump may not believe in climate change, but the rules he is eliminating help keep our environment clean and prepare for the future effects of global warming. His actions defy widespread bipartisan support across the country for taking action on climate change.
“Instead of rolling back the progress made during the Obama Administration, America should continue to be leaders in new climate-friendly technology and resiliency practices. President Trump’s actions today give big energy corporations free passes to pollute while many across our country will suffer from extreme weather, unbreathable air, and undrinkable water. We should not cede America’s leadership in cutting-edge research and development of new technology to other countries who will benefit from reneging on commitments made under the Paris Agreement.
“The President fails to realize that climate change is not just a vague, distant concept. His actions will accelerate the effects of climate change, threatening our economic and national security. I hope the President invested in flood insurance, because when Mar-a-Lago is underwater, he will have himself to blame.”
