Today, Congressman Deutch (FL-21) signed on as a cosponsor of The Voices for Veterans Act, H.R. 915.

This legislation would expand the Department of Veterans Affairs’ Advisory Committee on Minority Veterans to include lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) veterans.  More than 1 million veterans who are LGBT have proudly served our nation.  Despite this, these heroes consistently deal with discriminatory laws that prevent them from receiving full access to benefits and services from the VA.

This bill would take a pivotal step in ensuring that the voices of LGBT veterans are heard and represented.  The Advisory Committee on Minority Veterans provides counsel to the Secretary of Veterans Affairs on the unique daily needs of minority veterans, including health care, rehabilitation, and outreach.
