Rep. Deutch Cosponsors the Accelerating the End of Breast Cancer Act
Congressman Deutch (FL-21) has cosponsored H.R. 1197, the Accelerating the End of Breast Cancer Act.
This bipartisan bill would create a Commission to Accelerate the End of Breast Cancer, comprised of experts throughout the field of study and advocacy of breast cancer. This commission would seek to discover opportunities and possibilities that are currently not being utilized by the public and private sectors. Moreover, the commission would ensure that funding is directed to the most promising breast cancer research efforts. The purpose of the commission would be to help eliminate breast cancer in the US by 2020. This oversight commission will ensure that money and time are spend effectively, leading to more lives saved from breast cancer across the country.
Congressman Deutch has consistently worked to increase funding for cancer research. As a Florida Senator, Congressman Deutch worked with the American Cancer Society to “Pass the Buck,” adding one dollar to Florida’s cigarette tax and dedicating the revenue to health care and cancer research. As a U.S. Representative, he has voted to increase the allocation of research funds for the National Institutes of Health, including the National Cancer Institute, and supported expanding prevention and early detection programs at the Centers for Disease Control.
