Rep Deutch introduces International Violence Against Women Act
Congressman Ted Deutch (FL-21) has joined a bipartisan group of members of the U.S. House of Representatives to co-introduce H.R. 1340, the International Violence Against Women Act of 2015. This bill takes a comprehensive approach to ensuring that addressing gender-based violence is a long-term priority of U.S. foreign policy.
This bill would adapt existing U.S. policies to empower agencies such as USAID to specifically address women’s education, health, and social equality. Additionally, it would direct the Secretary of State to establish an Office of Global Women's Issues, with an Ambassador-at-large to address women’s issues throughout the world. By amending and improving existing programs, this bill does not require any additional funding. As a strong and consistent supporter of women’s rights, Congressman Deutch is proud to support this important effort to bring positive change to the lives of millions of women around the world.
