Legislative Updates: 115th Congress
Rep. Deutch Reintroduces Fair Play Fair Pay Act
Today, Congressmen Ted Deutch (FL-22) and Jerrold Nadler (NY-1) reintroduced the Fair Play Fair Pay Act. This legislation would modernize the outdated laws governing music licensing for radio broadcasts.
The Fair Play Fair Pay Act would ensure radio companies adequately compensate artists for playing their music. Regardless of the technology used by radio broadcasters, artists should be fairly compensated. This bill would create platform parity, thereby leveling the music playing field and ending the unfair, confusing distortions caused by the several different royalty standards that exist today.
Deutch is a senior member of the House Judiciary Committee and a co-chair of the Congressional Songwriters' Caucus.
