Congressman Ted Deutch (FL-21) issued this statement after being re-elected by his colleagues to serve as Ranking Democrat on the House Foreign Affairs Committee's influential Subcommittee on the Middle East and North Africa for the 114th Congress:
"The recent terrorist attacks in Paris serve as a stark reminder that what happens in the Middle East is of enormous consequence to the security of the United States and our allies around the world. As Ranking Member I will continue to vigorously promote our interests in the region, from defeating ISIL's terrorist campaign to kill innocents around the world and alleviating the devastating human rights crisis in Syria to preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons and protecting the security of our ally Israel. I am grateful to earn the support of my colleagues and look forward to working across the aisle with my friend and Subcommittee Chairman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen to address the many challenges that await us in the 114th Congress."
This term, Congressman Deutch will also serve on the Subcommittee on Europe, Eurasia, and Emerging Threats, a position that will afford him new opportunities to combat the growing resurgence of anti-Semitism in Europe, promote justice for Holocaust survivors, and build on his work as co-Chair of the Congressional Study Group on Germany, co-Chair of the bipartisan Congressional Hellenic-Israeli Alliance, and most recently, as a newly-appointed Member on the Steering Committee of the Inter-parliamentary Coalition for Combating Anti-Semitism (ICCA), an international coalition of parliamentarians from around the world working together to combat anti-Semitism in the 21st century.
