Congressman Deutch (FL-21) has cosponsored H.R. 1731, the Egg Products Inspection Act Amendments of 2013.

This bill amends the Egg Products Inspection Act to create a national standard for the humane treatment of egg-laying hens and the labeling of eggs. Specifically, this bill would outlaw many inhumane practices regarding chickens and egg production including the starving of chickens to increase egg production. This bill also requires the labeling of all egg packing to specifically state where the eggs came from. Examples of these labels include: “Eggs from caged hens” and “eggs from hens in enriched cages.”
