Legislative Updates: 113th Congress
Rep. Deutch Cosponsors the Employment Non-Discrimination Act of 2013
Congressman Deutch (FL-21) has signed on as an original cosponsor of H.R. 1755, the Employment Non-Discrimination Act of 2013.
Currently, a majority of states across the country legally permit the firing of workers simply because they are lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender (LGBT). H.R. 1755 prohibits employers from firing, refusing to hire, or discriminating against current and potential employees based on their sexual orientation or gender identity. Such protections are already in place for, among others, race, religion, and national origin. Hardworking LGBT Americans deserve the same, fair treatment, and should be judged based on the merits of their work product, not their sexual orientation or gender identity. By passing this bill, the US will begin the process of moving towards an end to workplace discrimination and equality for all. To read more about H.R. 1755, click here. |
