Legislative Updates: 113th Congress
Rep. Deutch Cosponsors the Clean Water Protection Act
Congressman Deutch (FL-21) has signed on as an original cosponsor of H.R. 1837, the Clean Water Protection Act.
H.R. 1837 amends the current Federal Water Pollution Control Act to prevent the dumping of mining waste into nearby valleys and streams by sharply reducing the use of mountaintop removal methods in coal mining. The mountaintop pieces from this process being dumped into these environments cause long-term negative effects to aquatic organisms, as well as severe health problems to residents using the water source. This legislation will protect those rivers and communities from the pollution produced from mountaintop removal. To read more about H.R. 1837, click here. |
