Legislative Updates: 113th Congress
Rep. Deutch Cosponsors the Denying Firearms and Explosives to Dangerous Terrorists Act of 2013
Congressman Deutch (FL-21) has signed on as an original cosponsor of H.R. 720, the Denying Firearms and Explosives to Dangerous Terrorists Act of 2013.
Under federal law, being a suspected or known terrorist does not disqualify one from buying guns and explosives. Therefore, if a background check reveals that the purchaser is a known terrorist, the federal government has no legal basis to prevent the purchaser from buying a gun. Currently, there are far too many gun regulation loopholes throughout the nation, and as a result the American people are put in danger. This bill will help shut some of these loopholes by giving the Attorney General the authority to stop the sale of guns or explosives to, or revoke the licenses of, individuals suspected of supporting or engaging in terrorism. This bill is yet another safe guard that will attempt to insure that guns do not fall into the wrong hands. To read more about H.R. 720, click here. |
