Legislative Updates: 113th Congress
Rep. Deutch Cosponsors the Public Safety and Second Amendment Rights Protection Act of 2013
Congressman Ted Deutch (FL-21) has cosponsored H.R. 1565, the Public Safety and Second Amendment Rights Protection Act of 2013.
The Public Safety and Second Amendment Rights Protection Act of 2013 takes a number of steps to move the U.S. in a safer direction on gun control. It would expand background checks on purchasers of firearms, and create a National Commission on Mass Violence to look into causes and preventive measures of mass violence by firearms. As well, this bill would encourage states to strengthen the National Instant Criminal Background Check System by submitting all available and relevant records into the system. These and other measures will move us toward a more secure America while simultaneously protecting the second amendment right of citizens who chose to safely exercise that rights. H.R. 1565 strives to ensure that guns are staying out of the hands of people who should not have access to them. To read more about H.R. 1565, click here. |
