Legislative Updates: 113th Congress
Rep. Deutch Cosponsors the American Opportunity Tax Credit Act of 2013
Congressman Ted Deutch (FL-21) has signed on as an original cosponsor of H.R. 1738, the American Opportunity Tax Credit Act of 2013.
This bill would make it easier for millions of Americans to pursue higher education by simplifying tax credits and making them more accessible. The Hope Scholarship and Lifetime Learning tax credit would be permanently replaced by the American Opportunity Tax Credit. This tax credit would cover up to $2,500 annually for tuition, fees, and other course materials for enrolled students. This tax credit may be applied to education costs beyond the scope of Pell Grants, and may be repeatedly claimed annually with a lifetime limitation of $15,000. Congress should be encouraging and offering incentives for American students to pursue higher education. This bill offers a simplified and more beneficial tax credit option for students and their families. To read more about H.R. 1738, click here. |
