Legislative Updates: 113th Congress
Rep. Deutch Cosponsors the Responding to Urgent needs of Survivors of the Holocaust Act
Congressman Ted Deutch (FL-21) has signed on as an original cosponsor of H.R. 2064, the Responding to Urgent needs of Survivors of the Holocaust Act or RUSH Act.
The RUSH Act amends the Older Americans Act of 1965 to add Holocaust survivors to the list of seniors that receive priority benefits. An individual from the Administration for Community Living of the Department of Health and Human Services with specific experience in issues of Holocaust survivors will oversee the program. The bill requires meals supplied by the project to meet cultural and dietary needs; directs the individuals delivering those meals to engage the home-bound recipients and check for signs of injury or abuse; and supports transportation services for vulnerable seniors. This legislation helps ensure that Holocaust survivors with economic or social needs are provided sufficient resources to live with dignity, comfort, and security.
