Legislative Updates: 113th Congress
Rep. Deutch Cosponsors the Disabled Veterans Tax Termination Act
Congressman Ted Deutch has signed on as a cosponsor of H.R. 333, the Disabled Veterans Tax Termination Act.
This bill will change current law to allow military veterans suffering from a service-connected disability rated less than 50% to receive both Veterans Affairs (VA) disability compensation as well as their military retirement pay. Currently, veterans receiving both face a dollar-for-dollar offset on their retirement pay based on what they receive from VA disability compensation. This bill would also speed up the phase-in of these provisions for concurrent receipt, and limit the reduction of retired pay for the retirees that have a qualifying disability and less than 20 years of retirement-credible service.
