Congressman Ted Deutch (FL-21) has cosponsored H.R. 137, the Fix Gun Checks Act of 2013.

In order to protect our children and communities from gun violence, the Fix Gun Checks Act of 2013 would mandate criminal background checks for all gun sales. This bill will specifically close loopholes that allow some gun buyers to forgo background checks, and ensure those that are federally prohibited from owning guns are included in national databases. This bill also makes substantial improvements to the current background check system by forcing private gun sellers to conduct background checks for transfers of firearms, just like current licensed dealers.
