Congressman Ted Deutch (FL-21), a senior member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Middle East and North Africa, is part of a bipartisan delegation of 14 member of Congress led by Senator John McCain (R-AZ) participating in the Munich Security Conference this weekend in Munich, Germany. Also attending is Vice President Joe Biden, who will be addressing the conference on the future of transatlantic security policy. This year's gathering of high-ranking officials from across the globe will mark the 49th Munich Security Conference, which has become a major forum for official discussions over political, economic, and security issues affecting bilateral and regional relationships. Issues expected to be discussed include the ongoing unrest in Syria, the situation in Mali, the Eurozone crisis, and Iran's illicit nuclear weapons program.
After arriving in Munich this morning, Congressman Deutch took a separate trip with Senator Saxby Chambliss (R-GA) and Senator Coburn (R-OK) to visit the grounds of Dachau, the first concentration camp opened by Nazi Germany. Deutch, Chambliss, and Coburn were accompanied by Abba Naor, an Israeli survivor of Dachau, to lay a wreath at the memorial for the thousands of victims who perished there. Opened in 1933, the Dachau camp served as a training center for Nazi concentration camp guards and a blueprint for all Nazi concentration camps.
