Congressman Ted Deutch (FL-21), a member of the House Judiciary Committee and the House Foreign Affairs Committee, has been tapped by Democratic leaders to take on a third assignment as a member of the House Ethics Committee in the 113th Congress. Congressman Deutch’s latest committee assignment comes just a week after he was elected as Ranking Democrat on the Subcommittee on the Middle East and North Africa on the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
“Serving on the House Ethics Committee requires the confidence of members of Congress on both sides of the aisle, and I am honored to have earned that trust in the three years since I was first elected to serve in Congress,” said Congressman Deutch. “Members of Congress must be held to high ethical standards in order to protect the integrity of the legislative process, and I look forward to working with Chairman Mike Conaway and Ranking Member Linda Sanchez to improve accountability and transparency in the 113th Congress.”
The House Committee on Ethics is the only committee in the House that is equally divided between members of both parties and is served by a completely nonpartisan staff. The Ethics Committee is charged with interpreting the House Code of Official Conduct and enforcing rules regarding gifts, travel, financial disclosure, outside income, and other activities of members of Congress, officers, and employees.
