Legislative Updates: 112th Congress
Deutch Cosponsors the Breast Cancer Research Stamp Reauthorization Act
Congressman Ted Deutch has cosponsored H.R. 466, the Breast Cancer Research Stamp Reauthorization Act. Since 1998, the U.S. Postal Service has sold over 903 million “semi-postal” breast cancer stamps – raising $72 million for breast cancer research. The public awareness generated from this stamp has helped not only educate our communities, but has empowered survivors and their families. According to the American Cancer Society, more than 2.5 million women in the United States are living with breast cancer today. This legislation will ensure that the stamp will continued to be sold for an additional four years. Like in the past, the stamp would have a surcharge above the value of a first-class stamp with the surplus revenues going directly to breast cancer research.
