Deutch Cosponsors Cameras in the Courtroom Act
Congressman Ted Deutch has signed on as a cosponsor of H.R. 3572, the Cameras in the Court Room Act of 2011. With no way for Americans to watch its proceedings and only 50 seats available in the courtroom, the Supreme Court remains the least transparent branch of our federal government. That’s why Congressman Deutch is cosponsoring a bipartisan bill first introduced by Senators Dick Durbin (D-IL) and Chuck Grassley (R-IA) in the United States Senate that will enable Americans to watch arguments before the Supreme Court on television.
“Americans can tune into C-SPAN to watch Congress on any given day, but they are shut out from observing some of the most important debates of our time play out before the Supreme Court,” said Congressman Deutch. “This type of secrecy denies Americans the right to watch and understand the decisions issued by the Supreme Court, all of which are of great consequence to our nation.
