Congressman Deutch (D-FL) released the following statement in reaction to President Obama’s address on the war in Afghanistan:
“The President’s announcement that the 33,000 troops he deployed in the Afghanistan surge will be coming home by next summer is an important start towards ending this war. From this point forward, however, what we need is a timeline for bringing each and every one of our 100,000 servicemen and women home. With Osama bin Laden dead, many of al Qaeda’s leaders driven from Afghanistan, and a nationwide unemployment crisis on our hands, we cannot be spending $8 billion a month on an endless war. As President Obama said, it is time to focus on nation-building here at home. Our priority must be transferring authority to the people of Afghanistan and drawing down our massive troop presence as soon as possible."
