Deutch Reaction to State of the Union Address
“President Obama delivered a message tonight that Congress urgently needed to hear. It is time to think big. This past year, we saw the creation of over a million new jobs, gains in our stock market, and healthy corporate profits, but fifteen million Americans remain out of work. Creating new jobs and achieving a new century of American competitiveness demands Congress put aside partisanship and work together on behalf of the American people.
“We cannot afford to treat job creation and deficit reduction as opposing goals when they must go hand in hand. Congress should heed President Obama’s call for fiscal restraint that cuts what is wasteful and invests in what works. No business can compete with outdated equipment, nor can America compete with outdated infrastructure. The investments we make today in education, energy, and infrastructure will pay dividends tomorrow. These public investments must be paired with real incentives for our businesses to reinvest in America and give our economy the momentum it needs to compete worldwide.”
