Interns in the district office often accompany
staff to community events with the Congressman.
Due to the overwhelming number of applications, internships with Congressman Deutch are competitive. Applicants are expected to have an interest in the political process, exceptional writing skills, and a professional demeanor and attire. In the district headquarters, interns assist constituent representatives with federal casework, attend town hall meetings and other events, and learn firsthand how a congressional office interacts with the local community. In Washington, interns assist staff by conducting research, writing constituent letters on an array of policy issues, attending briefings and hearings, and administrative tasks such as sorting mail and answering phones. Both experiences provide valuable knowledge of the inner workings of a congressional office.
Summer internships typically are for six week periods, as opposed to semester-long internships available in the spring and fall. Spring and fall interns should be available to work at least 20 hours a week. Preference is given to applicants from South Florida, however, all are welcome to apply.
