Legislative Updates: 115th Congress
Rep. Deutch Cosponsors Prevent All Soring Tactics Act
Today, Congressman Ted Deutch (FL-22) joined as an original cosponsor of the Prevent All Soring Tactics (PAST) Act.
Soring is the practice of deliberately inflicting pain on the hooves and legs of Tennessee Walking Horses to force them to perform an unnaturally high-stepping gait at horse shows. The PAST Act will amend the Horse Protection Act to ban the use of devices associated with soring, strenthen penalties for violations, and make illegal the actual soring of a horse.
Congressman Deutch is a member of the bipartisan Congressional Animal Protection Caucus and was the only Member of Congress from Florida to receive a perfect score from the Humane Society of the United States for his 2016 voting record in support of animal welfare.
